Atkins Diet Review
About the Program
Atkins Diet Review - Dr. Robert Atkins launched this low carb diet plan in 1972 and it's still promoted after all these years. The theory behind this weight loss program is ketosis.
Dr. Atkins explains it this way... carbohydrates are your body's main source of energy. When you decrease the amount of your daily intake of carbs - your body starts to consume the fat that is stored in your body for energy.
Carbs stimulate your body to produce insulin which in turn allows excess carbs to be stored as fat and your blood sugar level will become stable. By consuming more protein and fats, you'll feel more satisfied and less hungry.
The Atkins Diet has four phases.
- The Induction Phase restricts your carb intake allowing only 20 grams daily of which most of your carbs will come from salads and non starchy vegetables. This lasts for 14 days and is considered the initiation of the state of ketosis which allows calories to burn faster.
- The On-Going Weight Loss Phase allows you to increase your carbs by 5 grams weekly. You'll remain in this phase until you are within ten pounds of your goal.
- Pre-Maintenance Phase - you'll increase your carb intake again by 10 grams weekly if you are still losing weight. You'll also follow the Atkins Glycemic Ranking to choose your carbs.
- Lifetime Maintenance assists you with adding other foods back into your diet and being able to maintain your weight.

Summary
The Atkins Diet review shows this program has basically been construed as a high fat, red meat diet. Although lean red meats are part of the program, there are other lean proteins to choose from as well. Some of the positive feedback I have heard is that it's really easy for men to follow and they do lose weight easily.
